The Great Political theatre

Why do politicians pretend to be enemies? This blog post explores the psychology behind political performativity, the strategic nature of public debates, and why, often, what happens behind closed doors tells a different story from what we see on the campaign trail.

It’s a frequent source of public fascination and cynicism to observe politicians locked in heated, televised arguments, only to wonder whether those bitter rivalries disappear the moment the cameras stop rolling. This theatrical display of enmity often serves as a strategic performance for the electorate, aimed at solidifying party lines and energising a base that craves clear -cut heroes and villains. In reality, the intricate nature of governance often requires a level of behind-the-scenes cooperation that would seem hypocritical if shown openly; therefore, these public displays act as a form of “political theatre “to uphold partisan branding. While some ideological differences are undoubtedly genuine , the formative nature of these clashes can cultivate a climate of division, leaving many voters with good reason to question whether the vitriol we see on the nightly news is a sincere reflection of a core values or merely a calculated script designed to secure the next election.

Sanitisation

What’s one habit that has improved your life the most?

Adopting a consistent routine has quietly revolutionised my day- to -day life, transforming my home from a site of low- level anxiety into a sanctuary of genuine peace. By prioritising the regular disinfection of frequently touched surfaces such as door handles, light switches, and my mobile phone, i have experienced a dramatic reduction in the frequency of seasonal colds and minor illnesses, allowing me to focus my energy on productivity rather than recovery. Beyond the physical health benefits, there is a profound psychological clarity that comes with maintaining a sterile environment; the simple act of wiping down workspaces creates a ritualistic ‘reset’ button that clears away the mental clutter of the day. This shift towards meticulous cleanliness hasn’t just made me feel safer;it has fostered a sense of discipline and control that ripples outwards, encouraging me to be more mindful of my habits and more appreciative of the environment i inhabit.

The Hard Years

What’s a chapter of your life you’d title “The Hard Years” — and what got you through it?

The “Corona years”(COVID 19) hit me hard i lost my job and my business didn’t survive the shift.

It’s easy to talk about success, but we don’t talk enough about the reset. That season of life taught me more about grit, adaptability, and risk management than any course ever could. Sometimes, the end of one path is the only way to find a better one.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

If i could live anywhere in the world,i could choose to live in Antarctica!

Beyond the battlefield

What’s a lesson you’ve learned recently that shifted your perspective?

The lesson i have learned recently that shifted my perspective is that, true influence and leadership are built on empathy and peace rather than destruction and force. This piece challenges the traditional definition of “power” by examining why violence against the innocent often leads to long-term loss rather than sustainable gain, and how cultivating humanity within our own souls is the ultimate key to lasting stability.

Why can true power only be found through humanity?
